ACAL Energy Limited was incorporated in August 2004. The company is owned by the management team, and The Rising Stars Growth Fund.
RisingStars Growth Fund, managed by EV, was formed in March 2002 and was the third most active VC investor in the UK in 2004*. It invests solely in seed and early stage companies that have the potential to grow quickly into international businesses.

The company has built a portfolio of breakthrough intellectual property that addresses fundamental barriers to the commercialisation of fuel cells.
It is also receiving support from the The Carbon Trust as part of their Incubator programme, which the Trust set up in April 2004, to support early stage, low carbon technologies get to the market place.
In October 2005 the company successfully won a DTI feasibility Grant for R&D award, administered by the NWDA, to investigate specific aspects of the technology and its performance in application.
